My Story: I am a lifelong runner and a below knee amputee. I became a below knee amputee in January 2022 due to surgery complications and repeated arterial clots in my lower left leg. Amputee Blade Runners has graciously worked with me and provided me with a running prosthetic so I am able to continue running and continue an active healthy and active lifestyle. I am organizing this race as a way to give back to this wonderful organization!
Amputee Blade Runners helps countless amputees, and especially children, to pursue athletics and physical activity. To an amputee, a sports-specific prosthetic is essential equipment. Without organizations, such as ABR, a majority of amputees would be unable to afford this equipment. ABR’s philosophy is that an athlete’s potential is defined by mindset, drive, and determination, not limb loss, and physical activity transforms health and quality of life long term.
The goal of the Freedom Festival Elkhorn 5K is to help raise money through race registration fees and donations for ABR. By including this race as part of the Afton Freedom Festival we can celebrate our great nation’s freedom, as well as the freedom for amputees celebrate to pursue athletics and physical activity through a prosthetic provided by ABR!
Thank you for your support!
Sincerely,
Kari Bradley (Race Director)
